Web Positioning: How to position a free website

Como posicionar una web gratis - posicionamiento web
Very often I receive emails from companies requesting to position their website for a specific criteria that they consider key to get visitors potentially interested in their products. The truth is that there are still many doubts about the web positioning process, which is mistakenly considered mysterious, complicated and only available to a few experts. I assure you that the reality is quite different and that if you follow the advice in this article, you can easily position your website for all the criteria you consider relevant.

By what criteria do I have to position myself?

A positioning campaign will be very fruitless if a study of the search criteria we want to address was not previously carried out. It is not necessary to be an expert in positioning to choose the most relevant criteria for your website, you should simply perform an imagination exercise and put yourself in the shoes of your potential clients for a moment.

If you are the owner of a website that sells umbrellas, ask yourself, for example, what would my customers write on Google if they wanted to buy an umbrella? Surely your first option would be criteria such as: "buy umbrellas" or "umbrella sales". Now think about it a little more carefully, it is a bit strange that such general terms attract visitors from truly potential customers. A lady who surfs the Internet in search of the umbrella of her dreams, will not resort to such general terms, instead it would be sensible to think that she would opt for more specific criteria such as: "carolina herrera umbrella", "signature umbrella" or "umbrella of design". You should also keep in mind that positioning your website will be easier, the less general the criteria chosen, this is what is called "long tail" in the SEO world.

There are specialized tools in the analysis of search criteria that can help you make a decision. One of them is the Google AddWords keyword tool. It is an online tool that allows you to get new ideas about keywords relevant to your business from a known criteria. It uses the Google knowledge base so it guarantees you great reliability.

And now ... what do I have to do to position my website?

1. Seo CopyRighting: Pamper the content of your web page.

After a detailed study we have decided that we want to position our website by the criteria: "Cribs for fat babies". To get a position for this term, it is essential that we have good content. It is very important that we pamper the content of our page, it is only possible to achieve optimal positioning with quality content:

  • Take care of the orthography and grammar thoroughly.
  • Do not put straw: the content of your website must be concise and clear, do not write. It is preferable to have a couple of interesting paragraphs than several pages.
  • Awake the interest of the web community: write the information in a pleasant way in the descriptions and be precise in the technical details.
  • Include all the information that your customers may demand: prices, images, related links, etc.
  • Take care of the density of the term to be positioned within the page: You must ensure that the phrase "cribs for fat babies" appears within the content. Never put it in a shoehorn
  • Use synonyms and words related to the term to position.

2. Header tags and semantic tags.

Now is the time to encode your HTML content to get the most impact on Google. Google does not read plain text but html code, for this reason it is very important that you know the best way to present it:

  • Use header tags H1, H2, H3 ... Hn to establish a hierarchical order in the document. Google gives more relevance to the text the lower the order of the H tag that contains it. In this way we should define the main title with H1, a subtitle with H2 and use this methodology to sort the information of the whole document. An example would be: <h1> The new cribs for fat babies, a new way of understanding the rest </h1> <h2> If your baby no longer fits in the crib left by your sister, it may be time to renew it Discover the new ergonomic cradles developed with fiberglass and latex that guarantee the rest of your sky pot. </h2>

  • Incluya cada párrafo dentro de un tag <P> y evite los saltos de línea innecesarios.

  • Highlight the information on your page with semantic tags <STRONG> </EM>. They are called semantic tagas because they give meaning to the text. Strong and Emphasize is used to indicate to Google that the text has special relevance.

  • Include in all your images an alt attribute, with its description. You should keep in mind that Google is not able to recognize visual information.

  • Everything I said earlier is true but you should apply it in moderation and elegance. If after reading the previous points you had the temptation to fill out your document of <H1> s and <STRONG> s, forget it. Your page will be unintelligible and possibly Google considers it fraudulent and ignores it completely. Here, as in most situations of life, virtue is found in using things in their proper measure.

3. Optimize titles

The title of the page included in the <TITLE> tag is the main source of information about the page for Google. You should treat it with special care and study it carefully because its content will be the information that your visitors will find on the Google results page (SERP).

In the case of our example page we could have the following title:

<TITLE> Cribs for fat babies, all items for the newborn. </TITLE>

In the following article you can know everything you need to optimize the titles of your website.

4. Optimize the website URL

Urls engineering is one of the key pieces of web positioning. A url must be descriptive to help positioning, but at the same time concise and clear but facilitate its use by users. There is no perfect url to position a criterion, but the following tips will help you make a decision:

  • Include the keywords within the url.

  • You can use the characters "_" "-" to separate the words. Personally I prefer the script under "_", because I think it makes reading less difficult.

  • Avoid urls that are too long or too short.

  • You can rank the url: Include in the directory name the most generic term (pejm: cots) and in the file name the characteristics (pejm: for fat babies) for example: /cunas/bebes_gorninflones.htm

  • You can work only with directories: Include in the directory name the most relevant terms of the criteria to be positioned and use a generic file name: pejm: /cunas_bebes_gorninflones/index.htm

  • Do not buy a domain to position a website. The domain www.cunas_para_bebes_gorndinflones.com will not help you position your website sooner or better, on the contrary it will make the addresses of your website unmanageable and will greatly complicate the work of your visitors. In the following article you will find some tips for choosing a good domain name.

5. Take care of your meta content.

While it is true that the content of the META Keywords and Description do not have special relevance in the indexing algorithm in Google, we should not overlook that they play an important role in the development of our website. For example, Google will use the content of META Description to describe our page on its results page. You can read more information about META Tags in the following article.

In the example at hand we could have the following GOALS:

<meta name = "keywords" content = "items for babies, cribs, fat babies, baby health, baby wellbeing, growing up healthy, babies and being overweight">

<meta name = "description" content = "On this page you can find the largest catalog of baby cribs on the Internet" />

6. Get links

Links must be a direct consequence of a quality web page. The links are a good measure of the interest that your page aroused in the web community, and at the same time, the links get our website to reach a growing sector of people increasing their popularity.

  • Register your website in the main search engines and directories. In this article you can find more information about it.

  • Write to the Webmasters of Sites related to your products and services to notify them of the existence of your page.

  • Include in your website links to quality websites that you liked and that you consider interesting for your own visitors.

  • Never buy links and avoid links from unclear or fraudulent Site.

7. Make your page accessible

All the work you did so far will be useless if Google is not able to access our page, understand what we write and index it efficiently:

  • Independent content, design and functionality: Google will only index the textual content of your page, if you place the styles in external sheets and the javascript code in external files, you will be facilitating your work.

  • Always layout your pages based on css styles: Style-based layout allows you to minimize the HTML code to position the elements on the screen and therefore maximize the relationship between HTML and content.

  • Use tables exclusively to display tables.

  • Avoid the frames. You should keep in mind that the content of a frame will be invisible to Google.

  • Avoid redirects, especially those made in javascript.

  • Develop your page according to the standards.

8. Be honest

First of all be honest, when creating a page do it with enthusiasm and dedication, always keep your visitors in mind and do not create a page exclusively designed for Google.

Recently I read an article that analyzed several positioning campaigns carried out by various SEO companies, all had failed except one. In the successful one, the company had hired an editor who wrote an article about one of the company's services daily. The articles were of such quality that, after a while, they had loyalized a large number of people and, consequently, the company's online visits and sales had increased formidably.

That is all?

Yes, this is all. If you turn to any SEO company to position your website, your work will not differ much from the one reported in this article. I hope that from now on you will see web positioning as a much clearer, simpler and, why not, fun task.
